Luke Five
Chapter 5
1. One day, Jesus stood on the shore of Lake Gennesaret. People crowded
around Him to hear God's Word. 2. Jesus saw two
boats on the lake shore. The fishermen left them and were washing
their nets. 3. Jesus climbed into Simon's boat,
asking him to go out on the lake, a little way from the shore.
Then Jesus sat down in the boat
and taught the crowd. 4. When Jesus finished
speaking, He said to Simon, "Take the boat to deep water and drop
your nets for a catch." 5. Simon replied, "Master,
we worked hard all night, but we caught nothing. Yet, if you
tell me to do so, I'll drop the nets." 6. When
they did this, they caught so many fish that the nets began to
tear. 7. So they waved to their partners in the
other boat to come and help them. When they came, they filled
both boats so full that both began to sink. 8.
When Simon Peter saw this, he threw himself down in front of
Jesus and said, "Go away from me, Lord! I'm a sinful man!" 9. He and all those with him were astonished by the
number of fish they caught. 10. Simon's
partners, James and John, Zebedee's sons, were also amazed.
Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid! From now on, catch
people!" 11. When they brought the boats back
to shore, they left everything behind to follow Jesus.
